This Thanksgiving, I'm sharing a special thank-you pattern with you all - a free turkey design to celebrate the season and a thank you for all your support.
I hope you enjoy making it as much as I enjoyed designing it!
To make this pattern you will need:
Machines:
46 or 48 pin circular knitting machine
22 pin circular knitting machine
4 pin I-cord circular knitting machine
Yarn:
Light brown, Black, Red, Orange, Yellow, White
Other supplies:
2 x 20mm eyes, needle for casting off your machine and sewing on parts, scissors, stuffing of your choice, yellow felt, hot glue or fabric glue
Special note:
To make the hat part of this pattern you will need to know how to use waste yarn and simple crochet to close the ends.
Body/head:
On your 46 or 48 pin machine
Cast on with light brown
Work 130 rounds
Cast off
Double up and cinch both ends. Tie the yarn ends together tightly to secure them. Hide loose ends inside.
Add the safety eyes 3 inches from the top of the head (the cinched end) and 2 inches apart.
Stuff the head/body.
Using a length of yarn, create a drawstring around the open end (this end will be the bottom of the body). Pull the drawstring tight to close it as much as you can, be careful not to pull too tight as your yarn may break.
Tie a knot to secure and then sew the small opening in the bottom closed to finish. Secure and hide loose ends inside.
Neck:
Tie a length of yarn around the body/head approximately 2 inches below the eyes, pull gently to create the neck shape.
Finish the neck with a mattress stitch seam on either side of the yarn you used to create the neck shape.
Beak:
On your 22 pin machine
Cast on with yellow
Work 9 rounds
Cast off
Flatten and cinch one end and sew to secure. Lightly cinch the other end until the opening is approximately 1½ inches, this end should not be cinched completely closed.
Pinch the fully cinched end to form the end of the beak. Sew a few stitches at the tip to secure the shape.
Sew the beak between and below the eyes.
Secure and hide loose ends inside the head.
Wattle:
Using your 4 pin I-cord machine, create a cord approximately 5 inches long
Curl one end of the cord and sew to secure the curl.
Sew the wattle to the top of the beak with the curled part hanging down the side.
Secure and hide all loose ends inside.
Sew white eye accents to finish the face.

Cut out a buckle shape with yellow felt and glue this to the hat to finish (alternatively you can use yellow yarn to sew the buckle if preferred).
